Eye-yi-IKE!

Despite all the overblown news coverage, things are still relatively calm here in Sugar Land. Ike appears to be headed straight for us, but thus far we have yet to experience any rain or wind that discouraged us from going for a walk. We have secured the house, bought supplies, and have the candles ready to go! As for all of you that are worried about us, or our daughter drowning in a pool; I have attached some pics and video below that should put your worries to rest. We are about as relaxed as Charyse was during her second float test...and we know that if we do get flooded we can just float our way out!
Seriously, we have plenty of friends in various parts of the neighborhoods around us that have also stayed - and we have all agreed to be a support network if anything should happen to any of us...don't worry!

Float Test #2

the first float test!!!

After taking sporadic swim lessons at the Houston Swim Club (yes, that was a shameless plug) since she was five months old, Charyse had her first float test today! For the uninitiated, a float test involves throwing a fully clothed child into the middle of the swimming pool. In order to pass, the child has to pop up to the surface, roll onto their back, float to the side of the pool, and grab the bricks unassisted. Charyse did an awesome job! I didn't grab the camera fast enough to catch the first part of the action, but I did get the end...

She was so proud of herself! She'll have another float test tomorrow and a third on Friday. Next stop: learning to freestyle! :)

Bonus: a couple of cute pictures from around the house:
